As an obesity expert, Dr Vinay Jadhav tells that he has seen his patients go through emotional problems due to weight gain. Dr Vinay Jadhav says that people go through a difficult time when they gain weight because they become very self-conscious, socially awkward and tend to hide their bodies. Dr Vinay Jadhav says that weight issues have grave consequences emotionally and psychologically in a marriage.
Dr Vinay Jadhav asserts that when women gain weight post marriage, they feel inferior in terms of social and personal presence as compared to their spouse. As soon as they feel bloated or even slightly realize their weight gain, they embark on weight loss program or diet. They do not think twice before doing so. Some women are not so worried about their weight gain and tend to ignore it completely. When the situation goes out of hand they panic, and try to achieve weight loss through various methods.
Dr Vinay Jadhav says that for women weight gain has various impacts on their psychology. He says that even if the weight gain is not pointed out or if a women gains weight after her weight loss program concludes, she feels depressed. She experiences failure and quits on being positive. Dr Vinay Jadhav says that such women tend to wear not so attractive attire, remain indoors and avoid getting intimate with their spouse fearing embarrassment. Dr Vinay Jadhav says that this can be an important reason for tension between the couples where a spouse gains weight and other doesn’t.
Women often blame their pregnancy to be the reason of their weight gain. But does blaming pregnancy the answer to your self-esteem issues post gaining weight? Dr Vinay Jadhav says that men are also conscious about their weight gain and constantly try to maintain themselves. However, these efforts may not always pay off or be the right efforts. Men are less concerned about their physique as compared to women but when the wife has something to say about the flab on the stomach, they too initiate a change in their lives.
Dr Vinay Jadhav says that when in a marriage, both the wife and the husband start to put on weight, it a time for a huge revelation for both of them. First, it is all about teasing each other, blaming the extra dessert or the sitting job or the lack of exercise. Then it slowly progresses to comparing each other’s situations and how the weight gain was justified. All the mess then begins to reflect on the intimacy and comfort level these people share. The standards of the relationship suddenly spike up and differences start to crop up. Weight issues have known to be the ground for divorce. Dr Vinay Jadhav states that personal differences in a marriage can further depress people and can affect their eating habits and lead to more weight gain.
Dr Vinay Jadhav suggests that when you are experiencing weight gain, you must not ignore it for tomorrow. If your spouse is putting on weight, you must try to be understanding and motivating. Emotional support during a weight loss program can work wonders and bring about better results and increase the determination of a person. If experiencing problems in marriage due to weight gain, Dr Vinay Jadhav says that people should talk to one another and consult a psychiatrist if necessary. Divorce or separation or a long term cold relationship is not the answer to the weight issues. Dr Vinay Jadhav says that it is necessary to step up to treat weight gain or obesity just like one would treat any other disease or disorder. Ignorance will only lead to increased health vulnerabilities and problems.
Dr Vinay Jadhav thinks that people who face issues in their marriage following weight gain should not be depressed and think positively to make things better in their lives. It is very important to choose a weight loss program which will help with the weight loss issues. No matter how it gets to maintain positivity while fighting so many monsters at a time, it should be the top priority to feel healthy, love your body and seek your partner’s support and encouragement. Some rough moments should not be taken to the heart since weight loss is not a quick process; it takes its own sweet time to create a change in your body.
An ideal weight loss program should be chalked out with the help of a doctor or health expert and not by trusting widely advertised diets just to get a quick result. Dr Vinay Jadhav reassures people that weight loss is not hard to achieve; it just has to be done the right way and shouldn’t be harmful to the body in any way. Diets that encourage starving the body and following a stringent exercise routine are very common but may not be as successful as promised. The weight lost after taking so many painstaking efforts gets regained because of the starving that the body has been put through. Dr Vinay Jadhav explains that though most weight loss programs focus around calories, calories are not relevant and nor is cutting down on your favourite food. All that is important is to have a healthy diet and eating on time, providing the body whatever it needs to remain fit. Marriage counselling, if necessary and talking freely about your problems to your spouse are the best ways to deal with weight gain issues without letting your relationship be affected.
